Coors Light - Texas Pro Stock Shootout Winners: Larry Pierce from Fulton, Texas (top) took the win in the Pro Stock Shootout, defeating Richard Otwell of Conroe, Texas in the final round. Larry got the better light at .030 to Richard's .046 then took the stripe first with a 4.77 at 146 MPH. Richard ran off his semi-final pace, stopping the clock at a 5.10 at 110 MPH. Larry drove what amounted to a bracket car all day, posting ETs of 4.789, 4.776, 4.776 and a 4.778 at 140.93 MPH in the last round. Richard's car was no sloch either, showing ETs of 4.793, 4.795 and 4.771 in the semis. A bunch of us regular bracket racers spent the day wishing for that kind of consistancy.
The Pro Stocks like running for the west Texas crowd so much they put on a Second Chance race. In that final, Lance Abbott put his truck in the Winner's Circle win with a killer .009 light and a 4.953 at 140.93 MPH. Runner up Clint Crownover layed down almost the same lap, clocking a 4.950 at 140.10 but his .105 light put him behind all the way down the track. When you review the reaction times, remember these guys are leaving against a .400 Pro tree setup. |

A. J. Enterprizes Top ET: The Levelland Mafia swept Top ET today, with Kevin Bracey getting the "Nah-Nah I Win" credits, beating Rusty Rose in the final round. Rusty killed Kevin on the tree with a .003 to Kevin's .016. But at the line, it was the Daily Double Breakout. Kevin squeaked out the win with a .0009 breakout of 4.8391 on a 4.84 dial. Rusty took a little too much finish line, hitting a 4.710 on a 4.73. |

Pinnacle Countertop Solutions Modified ET: Sambo Tyra (top) claims another win in Modified ET this week, clipping Merkel's Jay Campbell in the final. Sambo slapped the tree with a .007 light and was first to the finish with a 6.94 on a 6.92 dial. Jay had a decent .046 light but ran a little off with a 6.05 on a 6.01 dial for runner up. Not in the least to take anything from Sambo's win, because a win over Abilene's corral of outlaws in any bracket is always a big deal, but the real story here is with Jay (2nd from left) and Jerry McCoy (3rd from left). Here's the note we got from Jay on Sunday:
"I just wanted to take a minute to say something about the racers spirit.
Saturday I struggled in the first couple of rounds with my car really falling off and not running the number. After some inspection I found my slicks were showing some cord (dumb mistake on my part). So I pretty much thought my day was over. Then Jerry McCoy said, "I'm out for the day. You can use my tires and wheels if you want to". I thought about a minute and said are you serious? He said "yep, you want to switch them"? We got them switched, and I went on to make the semi-finals in Pro Footbrake, and the finals in Modified ET. I tried to pay "rent" for the tires to both Jerry and his wife several times. Neither would accept anything in return. That is the true racers spirit, and a they great family as well. It's not always about the money or the points. It's also the spirit of friendly competition, and fellowship. I want to thank the McCoy family for being such gracious friends and racers. They are a real asset to the racing community and the Abilene Dragstrip.
Thanks again, Jay Campbell" |

| Longmire Plumbing Jr. Dragster: Kacy Collier of Clyde (top) got the win in Jr. over Tyler Thorpe from Knickerbocker. Tyler left a little early with a -.027 red and that gave the win over the Kacy. Kacy is signed up in the point program, so she is also this week's tire winner from Mickey Thompson Tires of Texas. Due to high winds at the 4/11 race, the Jr. tire award was carried over to this weekend. |

| Rhino Linings of Abilene All Class Quick: Rusty Rose took the win in All Class Quick when he got the better of a double breakout final against Zack Womack. Rusty went a bit under 4.71 on a 4.73 dial with a .047 reaction time. Zack was a little slower off the line with a.083 and then ran farther under the dial, showing a 4.569 on a 4.59 dial. Hmmm - Rusty's breakout looks very similar to his breakout in Top ET...Sandbagger! |
| TSTC West Texas Pro Footbrake: Bobby Knox of Early (top) used a great .018 light and an easy 6.84 on a 6.79 dial to earn his chance to park the big truck in the Winner's Circle. Bobby knocked out Ty Casey in the last round. Ty missed the tree with a .091 and ran 6.172 under his 6.18 dial trying to catch up with Bobby. |

| Whitten Inn Street Money: The Street Money final is going to be re-run at a later date. The report shows Robert Hector getting the win over Theresa Dempsey in the last round. They left the line about the same, but the computer shows Theresa's Firebird running stopping the clocks with a 8.56 at 138 MPH, which is a big "ain't no way", even if she layed on the nitrous button for a couple of minutes. Street Money was up for the Mickey Thompson Tire Award this week. Both racers are signed up for points, so the winner gets to claim the cash and a fresh pair of tires from Mickey Thompson Tires of Texas. And there really is some spray in Theresa's 'bird - she spit the drive shaft out of it during a nitrous pass Friday night. |
| Max's Kawasaki Motorcycle: Donnie Oliver of Hawley (top) grabbed his third in a row win in Motorcycle, this time taking out Jerry Bowen from Novice in the final. Donnie was slow on the light with a .172, but had the bike dialed in with a 6.454 on a 6.44 run. Jerry had a good .040 light but the bike didn't get there fast enough, clocking only 6.47 against a 6.33 dial. |

| Top ET Gamblers: Amber Rose of Levelland got the better of Abilene's Charles Bacuum in the Gamblers final on Friday night. Amber hit a quick .013 light and lifted to a 4.82 on a 4.78 dial for the win. Charles ran closer to the dial with a 6.62 on a 6.61 but his .196 light didn't help things at all. |
| Modified Gamblers: Robert Schoemer fought new transmission problems all night and stll managed to make the final round in the Modified gamblers. Runner up Don Gowler had problems with his ride and decided it would be best to park the car. |
| We were thankful that the weather let us have a Sunday to run our Street Eliminator races. Robert Schoemer parked the Pontiac and drove his Chevy truck to a win in Sunday's Sterling Volkswagen Street Eliminator. Robert killed the tree with a .003 light and ran it out the back with a 11.71 on an 11.75. That would have been a bad thing, but his opponent Chris George left early with a -.066 red. Chris lost the round, but since he was driving a 2000 Caddy Deville, he likely wins on style points. Well, compared to Robert's truck anyway. |
