| The Maxxis Ultimate Control Points Race was carried out over both Saturday and Sunday, May 24 and 25. This was our second double points/double payout race of 2008. We were going good, got nearly finished with the first round on saturday evening when we encountered a little rain delay. About 8:30ish, it looked like the left picture above.By about 9pm, the wind was going east to west down the track at about 60+ MPH and it rained 2 inches or so in the space of an hour. Plenty of lighning bolts too, as you can see in the right frame above. The radar made us think we might just catch the edge of it, but we pretty much got the whole darn thing with a little hail thrown in for good measure. Sunday started out a little muggy as you can imagine, but it was a good weather day. Well, if 100F in the shade with 125F track temp is good weather then we had it. The Pro Mods hit the track as hard as they could, with Ken Thomas moving the track record down exactly .02 to 4.109. Before you say I've seen 'em run 3s, note that the density altitude was about 4700 feet on Sunday. Down from 5300 on Saturday afternoon. Did we mention the weather kinda cheesed out on us? The Jet cars didn't care about the weather and put on a good show. It actually got cooler after the jets ran. Maybe we had control of the weather and didn't know it. Thanks to everyone that came for the race and a big thank you to those that were able to stay for Sunday. |
