(page load about 2 minutes @ 56K)
Saturday brought out Robert Fain and his new Anglia for a few test passes. It also brought Gene Hector over from Odessa to take a shot at the 4.109 pass recorded by Ken Thomas on May 25. Gene got close, hitting a 4.12. And then there was the thing with the fox...
One minute you're a critter caught in the middle of a drag race, next you're head gear.  OK, not really on the head gear.  Actually, the only thing we're sure about is that the fox and the roadster got together somewhere just past the finish line late Saturday night. It's a shame for the critter, but it could have been much worse if it hadn't hit almost square on the nose.
Is it 2008....or 1968?
Awards were presented to the winners after the race.

Sunday Winners

Stock Muscle:  Leo Thompson of Weatherford took home the win in Stock over Steve Longmire of Abilene. Leo ran 11.36 on an 11.21 dial, with Steve managing a 10.52 on a 10.40.
Street Muscle:  Street came down to David Huffaman of Garland against Sara Rucker from Santo. David took the win after Sarah went red on the start.
Super Muscle:Theresa Dempsey of Abilene went dead on 8.877 on an 8.87 dial to win Super. Runner up Thad Mour had a better light but broke out just a hair, running 8.888 under his 8.89 dial.
King Muscle: Sombody's got to stop this guy. Marty Parker of Kemp claims the King Muscle win for the second straight year at the Abilene race. Running laps like an 8.203 on an 8.20 might have something to do with that win streak. Runner up Clayton Longmire of Abilene broke out trying to catch the old goat (the car, the car, not Marty) clocking 7.78 under a 7.82 dial.
Pro Muscle:  Gary Mitchell from Plano got top honors in Pro, finishing up with a 7.329 on a 7.32 dial to win the final round. Jim Logan of Arlington had Gary by a bit on the tree, but busted out at the stripe with a 7.26 under his 7.30 dial. Gary also got the unofficial "mister burnout" honors. The Chevy can really smoke 'em up.
Super Pro Muscle:  Mac Sibley of Midlothian came out on top in a double red light final round. Sean Alstrin of Irving left first and made the first foul, and that was about it. It would have been a close race. Sean ran 6.76 on a 6.75 with the cop rod posting a 6.43 on a 6.40.
Electronics: Brad Smith of Grand Prairie got a competition bye for the win in Electronics after Butch Johnson of Tuscola couldn't make the call from the lanes.
Race of Champions: Sambo Tyra had a bit of trouble with the tree first round, but recovered in the Race of Champions to go some rounds and take the win.  In the final against Paul Brown of Midlothian, Sambo clocked a winning 7.26 on a 7.23 dial against Paul's 6.81 on a 6.78.
Saturday Night Gamblers
Saturday Gamblers: in the Saturday gambler's race, Roger Chittum0 (top) used a dead on 5.383 on a 5.38 dial to get the win.  Sambo Tyra made the finals from the Modified side of the ladder.  Sambo had the better light but only managed a 7.10 on a 7.06 dial for runner up.  In the "semis", Roger got around Brent Nance with a 5.39 on a 5.38 in spite of Brent's dead on 5.828 on a 5.82.  Roger had the best light in that match up. Over in Mod, Sambo got past Steve Longmire in a double breakout round.  Sambo was closer with a 7.084 on a 7.09 while Steve's El Camino got way happy and ran 10.24 under the 10.32 dial.

Friday Street Night:  Theresa Dempsey drove the white Firebird to a win in the Street Series on Friday, getting the best of Ron Hoover in his father's red Camaro in the final.  Due to some strange mixup with the dial ins, both finalists were bought off with $50 gift certificates to Fuji Japanese Steak House. Tim Erickson of Dyess AFB drove his 2004 Subaru to a third place finish.
