We still had a great race show, even if we did have to push it to Sunday. No rain pics this time - just refer to the last rain out and it was about the same deal. Thanks to the West Texas True Ten Five racers that could stay over. Thank you also to all our regular racers and some new folks that braved the Saturday deluge and returned to finish it out on Sunday. We were glad to have you all.
Wagon's Ho!
Larry Zientek gets a bit of air.
Gene Hector of Big Spring stopped by to take a shot at the ProMod track mark of 4.10. He got real close.
Johnny Brazell got a little taste of both his car hobbies - this run started out with a mondo wheel stand and ended up with a little dirt trackin' on the top end. The wall and the fender are safe - this time.
Sometimes you get surprised at how simple it can be to make a difference in someone's life. In the same breath, you may also receive a reminder of just how precious life is. Brendon Coats and his siister Amelia along with parents Alison and Tony came to the races on Saturday and had a great time. Brendon took quite a liking to Ross Steffenauer's car. Track Bosses Dean and Alva took them around and Brendon got to visit with Ross and sit in the car. The Longmire's helped get brother and sister into a pair of Jr. Dragster to get a feel for the driver's seat. Brendon has terminal brain cancer. Every minute counts for this family.
Outlaw Back Half: The computer really chewed the data on this one. We're calling it Doyle Gill of Midland (top) as the winner - 5.50 @ 126 over Raymond Martinez of Monohans - 5.70 @ 108
Ten Five Bracket One: Gordon Dempsey of Abilene (top) takes the win here over Brad Swift of Midland. Brad had the better light at .033 but his 5.71 @ 125 wasn't enough to get around Gordon's 5.49 @ 133.
Ten Five Bracket Two: In Bracket Two, it was Charles Baucum (top) 6.07 @ 155 over Jimmy Patton 6.13 @ 113. Both racers are from Abilene.
A.J. Enterprises Top ET: Johnny Brazell (top) just beats on that poor old Camaro. Besides spraying the dog out of it in the Ten Five class, he was going rounds in Top ET. In the final, runner up Clayton Longmire broke on the line, giving the win to Johnny who peeled off a leisurely 6.346 ona 6.35.
Audio Magic Modified ET: Tommy Wade (top) of Abilene took home a win in Modified, taking out Jay Campbell in the final round. Tommy's 7.70 on a 7.66 was good enough for the win. Well, it almost wasn't since Jay broke out with a squeaker 6.087 on a 6.09 dial. Jay also spent the day whipping on his Camaro in the Ten Five class.
Longmire Plumbing Jr. Dragster: Shanen Warneke of Big Springs (top) claimed the Jr win in a double big breakout final with Codi Bettis of DeLeon. Shanen ran 7.88 under a 7.93 dial, with Codi blasting to a 13.08 way under the 13.24 on the dial-in board.
Max's Kawasaki Motorcycle: John Poor of Max's Kawasaki in Abilene used a 6.09 on a 6.08 dial to claim the win in the Motorcycle class. Grant Lewis of Knox City broke out on his attempt, stopping the clock at 6.43 under a 6.45.
Rhino Liner of Abilene All Run Quick: Neil Tinsley (top) from Melvin made off with the win in All Run quick after Abilene's Maxey Chittum red lit on the starting line. There's a lot of red in the picture too.
Whitten Inn Street Money: Theresa Dempsey of Abilene gets another win in Street Money, running a dead on 8/795 on her 8.79 dial. Joe Kennedy of Stephenville broke out, posting a 11.05 on his 11.08.
TSTC West Texas Open Trophy: Open Trophy makes the footbrakers crazy because of the crosstalk setup. These guys bought in for the time trial and ended up going to the finals. Chris Kelly of Merkel (top) get the win with a 7.419 on a 7.41 dial. Sambo Tyra was on a screamin' pass, running 7.11 under his 7.15 dial, riding the brakes all the way.
Dodge Rambunctious Friday Night Gamblers
Dodge Rambunction Friday Gamblers: Joseph Tinsley (top) of Melvin got the win in our Rambunctious Friday Night gamblers race. Joseph put out Clayton Longmire in the Top final, running 4.99 on a 4.96 with a great .010 light. Clayton had a better .006 light but running 5.05 under his 5.09 dial kinda ruined that deal. Over on the footbrake side, Sambo Tyra put out Jay Campbell after Jay went a bit red on the start. In the Top vs mod final, Sambo left first and went pink - pink would be leaving early by -.0009 (9 ten thousandths). Would have been a killer race as Joseph clocked 5.00 on a 4.96 and Sambo ran it out to a 7.13 on a 7.11.
Thursday's Sterling Volkswagen Street Eliminator series saw Robert Schoemer take the win in his Chevy truck with Korey Seeley taking the runner up spot. Third place went to Jeffery Smith.
